About Qatar

Healthcare continues to be one of the highest priorities for the State of Qatar. The health sector has advanced at a rapid pace, and is now providing the most compelling clinical care with state-of-the-art technology as never before.

Qatar has expanded its wide network of hospitals and health centers all over the country. Health services in Qatar are offered through the primary health centers to enhanced intensive care entities, and from small rural health centers to enormous major hospitals.

One of the government panels responsible for executing these programs is the National Health Authority (NHA) which was established in 2005.

The NHA is charged with providing public health services and acting as a regulatory body in all aspects of healthcare services: Research, medical administration and medical education are just an example of the NHA’s interests. The NHA also regulates the marketing and manufacturing of pharmaceuticals in accordance with international quality standards, and within the framework of the public policy of the State and in accordance with a national strategy aimed at realizing the aforementioned objectives.

The National Health Authority also supervises over Hamad Medical Corporation, Hamad Specialist and Educational Hospital, private medical facilities, laboratories, pharmacies, councils of auxiliary medical professions, hospitals, primary healthcare centers and other public medical treatment utilities. On the other hand, NHA undertakes the organization of the medical private sector and it acts in coordination with the Health Insurance System to upgrade the level of health service and disseminate health education and awareness.
